How does organic ferroelectric switch?

​Organic ferroelectrics such as P(VDF-TrFE) copolymer is an important material that can be used as the memory devices and transducers. Here the polarization switching dynamics of this material has been systematically studied. The coercivity shows a crossover behavior over frequency, which is attributed to the transition between domain wall creep and flowing. In addition a lower limit of coercivity has been observed for the first time for organic ferroelectrics. Both illustrate the important role of defect playing in the switching of organic ferroelectrics. Our observations shed new light on the switching dynamics of semi-crystalline ferroelectric polymers, and such understandings are critical for realizing their reliable applications.
